To a solution of benzyl 2,5-dihydro-lH-pyrrole-l-carboxylate (33 g, 163 mmol) in dichloromethane (540 mL) was added MCPBA (77 wt. , 44 g) and the reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 18 hrs. The mixture was diluted with saturated aqueous sodium carbonate solution (500 mL) and the resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hr. The separated organic layer washed with water and brine, dried over sodium sulfate, filtered off and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by column chromatography [silica gel] providing benzyl 6-oxa-3-azabicyclo[3.1.0]hexane-3-carboxylate (29.5 g) as a yellow oil. 1H NMR (400 MHz, chloroform-d) delta [ppm]: 3.38 (dd, J = 12.8, 6.0 Hz, 2 H), 3.68 (d, J = 3.6 Hz, 2 H), 3.87 (dd, J = 13.2, 19.6, 2 H), 5.11 (s, 2 H), 7.33 (m, 5 H).
