In the rapid scan regime, the signal-to-noise for rapid-scan spectra was about a factor of 2 higher than for unbroadened CW EPR, even when the rapid scan spectra were obtained in a mode that had only 4% duty cycle for data acquisition. Further improvement in signal-to-noise per unit time is expected for higher duty cycles. Rapid scan spectra have higher bandwidth than CW spectra and therefore require higher detection bandwidths at faster scan rates. However, when the scan rate is increased by increasing the scan frequency, the increase in noise from the detection bandwidth is compensated by the decrease in noise due to increased number of averages per unit time. Because of the higher signal bandwidth, lower resonator Q is needed for rapid scan than for CW, so the rapid scan method is advantageous for lossy samples that inherently lower resonator Q. After connecting a C ring allyltitanium segment with an A ring bi-cyclo[4.1.0]heptanone segment, the seven-membered B ring moiety was constructed by an intramolecular cyclization reaction of an epoxy nitrile. The enone moiety was introduced through an oxidative decyanation reaction, and the bicyclo[4.4.1]undecane skeleton with the highly strained olefin moiety was formed through a ring-opening reaction of the bicyclo[4.1.0]heptane substructure.

Failure analysis of LiNi0.83Co0.12Mn0.05O2/graphite-SiOx pouch batteries cycled at high temperature

The combination of Ni-rich layered oxide and graphite-SiOx is regarded as a high-energy-density system for the lithium-ion power batteries. It is significant to elaborate the failure mechanism of the two materials in full batteries, especially at high temperature. In this study, the failure behavior of LiNi0.83Co0.12Mn0.05O2/graphite-SiOx pouch batteries (>= 50 Ah) cycled at 45 degrees C has been studied by using the non-destructive electrochemical methods and physico-chemical methods for the cathode and anode materials. Compared with the failure mechanism of lithium-ion batteries cycled at room temperature, it is more inclined to occur at high temperature that transition metal ions dissolve out from cathode and deposit on the anode, electrolyte decomposes, and solid electrolyte interphase grows. The resulting phenomena show that the cathode deterioration is slight, and the anode degradation is the main factor of pouch battery degradation. After failure analysis, the concentrationgradient NCM cathode and nitrile-containing electrolyte additive are assembled into the pouch batteries, and the capacity retention increases from 75.24% (pristine batteries at 280 cycles) to 83.44% (improved batteries at 1500 cycles). Therefore, we suggest that power batteries operating at high temperature should be with minimized transition metal dissolution of cathode materials and stable solid electrolyte interphase.

Bioprocessing optimization for efficient simultaneous removal of methylene blue and nickel by Gracilaria seaweed biomass

The pollution of water by heavy metal ions and dyes, particularly from industrial effluents, has become a global environmental issue. Therefore, the treatment of wastewater generated from different industrial wastes is essential to restore environmental quality. The efficiency of Gracilaria seaweed biomass as a sustainable biosorbent for simultaneous bioremoval of Ni2+ and methylene blue from aqueous solution was studied. Optimization of the biosorption process parameters was performed using face-centered central composite design (FCCCD). The highest bioremoval percentages of Ni2+ and methylene blue were 97.53% and 94.86%; respectively, obtained under optimum experimental conditions: 6 g/L Gracilaria biomass, initial pH 8, 20 mg/L of methylene blue, 150 mg/L of Ni2+ and 180 min of contact time. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) spectra demonstrated the presence of methyl, alkynes, amide, phenolic, carbonyl, nitrile and phosphate groups which are important binding sites involved in Ni2+ and methylene blue biosorption process. SEM analysis reveals the appearance of shiny large particles and layers on the biosorbent surface after biosorption that are absent before the biosorption process. In conclusion, it is demonstrated that the Gracilaria seaweed biomass is a promising, biodegradable, ecofriendly, cost-effective and efficient biosorbent for simultaneous bioremoval of Ni2+ and methylene blue from wastewater effluents.
