A copper-catalyzed ortho-selective amination of 2-azulenols with O-benzoylhydroxylamines (RR’N-OBz) to synthesize ortho-aminoazulenols was reported. The further synthetic elaboration using 3-amino-2-azulenols as starting materials was demonstrated.
