Hyper-conjugative interactions and charge delocalization within the molecules were studied using NBO analysis to explore their stability.H-1 NMR and(13)C NMR chemical shifts of the title molecules were calculated by the GIAO method and compared with experimental results, and good correlations were accomplished. A catalyst-free and recycle-reinforcing elastomer vitrimer with exchangeable links

Vitrimers, as intriguing polymers, possess exchangeable links in the crosslinking networks, endowing them with the abilities of recycling and reprocessing. However, most of vitrimers are generally fabricated via complex synthesis and polymerization processes. Toxic and unstable exogenous catalysts are inevitably applied to activate the exchange reaction to rearrange the crosslinking networks. These drawbacks limit the widespread applications of vitrimers. Moreover, most reported vitrimers could only partially maintain or severely deteriorate their mechanical properties after recycling. Herein, to solve the above-mentioned problems, for the first time, a catalyst-free and recycle-reinforcing elastomer vitrimer is revealed. By the reactive blending of commercially available epoxidized natural rubber and carboxylated nitrile rubber, the elastomer vitrimer associated with exchangeable beta-hydroxyl ester bonds was obtained. Strikingly, the vitrimer exhibits an exceptional recycle-reinforcing property. This work provides a feasible method to fabricate elastomer vitrimers, which promotes the recycling of crosslinking commercial available elastomers.

Application of analytical pyrolysis to gain insights into proteins of condensed corn distillers solubles from selective milling technology

Present study evaluates the analytical pyrolysis to unravel the pyrolysate compounds (PyCs), protein & glycosylation indicators in a protein fraction (PF) from condensed corn distillers solubles (CCDS) of novel selective milling technology. Besides, quadratic and linear corre-lations using protein content (%) by Dumas method, toluene signature PyC, and elemental nitrogen (%) were developed. Pyrolysis was performed at temperature of 400 degrees C, where most of the PyCs released from proteins in a lignin-free PF instead of other constituents. The p cresol and methyl 9,12-octadecadienoate were found with the highest area% of 3.2 and 19.3 in PF and CCDS, respectively. Protein derived PyCs such as nitrogen heterocyclics, amines & amides and nitriles were examined 63.93%, 61.90% and 70% greater in PF than CCDS. Moreover, the indicators of protein were toluene, p-cresol, phenol, phenylacetonitrile, 4vinylphenol, whereas that of glycosylated protein were methyl mercaptan, furan derivatives, and hexahydro-3-(phenylmethyl) pyrrolo [1, 2 a] pyrazine-1,4-dione. The absence of diketopiperazines provided evidence of crosslinking and aggregation of protein. The values of the protein content obtained from the quadratic model and Dumas method were found to be statistically non-significant (p < 0.05) imply the model validity. Influence of ultraviolet aging on the structure, mechanical and gas permeability properties of hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber

The effect of ultraviolet (UV) radiation on the structure and performance of hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber (HNBR) was studied in this paper. The HNBR was exposed to UV radiation for various durations (0, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days). The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) results demonstrated that the surface molecular structures were oxidized to generate oxygenated species under UV radiation. The oxidative degree enhanced with the increase of aging time, resulting in thicker and denser cracks on the surface. The plausible aging mechanism of HNBR was suggested. The free volume of HNBR before and after UV aging was characterized by positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (PALS) and their cross-linking density, compression set, mechanical and gas permeability properties were also analyzed. In the first 14 days of UV irradiation, the dominant chain-scission reaction led to a decrease in cross-linking density of HNBR, resulting in the enhancement of free volume and thereby the increase of gas permeability. When the aging time was longer than 14 days, cross-linking reaction played a leading role and the free volume decreased, thus causing the reduction of gas permeability. As the aging time increased, the glass transition temperature (T-g), tensile strength and storage modulus of HNBR initially reduced and then increased, which was in agreement with the changing trend of cross-linking density.

P5CS expression level and proline accumulation in the sensitive and tolerant wheat cultivars under control and drought stress conditions in the presence/absence of silicon and salicylic acid

The effects of silicon (Si) and salicylic acid (SA) applications on proline content and expression of (1)-pyrrolin-5-carboxylate synthetase (P5CS) were examined under different drought levels and different drought exposure times. Two wheat cultivars, a drought tolerant and a drought sensitive were used. The experiment was a factorial based on completely randomized design with three replicates. Expression analysis by the quantitative real time PCR showed that the tolerant cultivar had significantly higher P5CS expressions compared to the sensitive one under drought stress. In sampling time points, the maximum level of mRNA was observed at 48h after stress was applied. At 48h after stress induction, the expression of P5CS was almost 3.1 fold higher in the tolerant cultivar compared to the sensitive one. In both cultivars, gene expression decreased from 48 to 72h. The stressed plants treated with Si+SA showed a higher expression. Proline content started to increase by Si and SA treatments and the maximum proline content was obtained at simultaneous application of Si+SA. Drought stress significantly reduced chlorophyll content, relative water content and leaf water potential of both cultivars, while increased electrolyte leakage (EL) of the leaves. In contrast, foliar-applied Si and SA significantly increased these parameters and reduced EL, and the effect of simultaneous application of Si and SA was greater. The results suggest that the P5CS is a stress inducible gene. This gene has the potential to be used for improvement of drought stress tolerance in wheat. Network analysis highlighted positive interaction of osmotic stress, drought and cold stress on P5CS1 and the regulatory role of MYB2, ERF-1, and EIN3 transcription factors. In conclusion, alleviation of drought stress by application of Si and SA was associated partially with enhanced expression of P5CS gene and following proline accumulation.
