The preparation of 2-(3-pyrrolin-1-yl)-1,4-naphthoquinones and a study of their use as photoactivated alkylating agents is reported. Failure analysis of LiNi0.83Co0.12Mn0.05O2/graphite-SiOx pouch batteries cycled at high temperature

The combination of Ni-rich layered oxide and graphite-SiOx is regarded as a high-energy-density system for the lithium-ion power batteries. It is significant to elaborate the failure mechanism of the two materials in full batteries, especially at high temperature. In this study, the failure behavior of LiNi0.83Co0.12Mn0.05O2/graphite-SiOx pouch batteries (>= 50 Ah) cycled at 45 degrees C has been studied by using the non-destructive electrochemical methods and physico-chemical methods for the cathode and anode materials. Compared with the failure mechanism of lithium-ion batteries cycled at room temperature, it is more inclined to occur at high temperature that transition metal ions dissolve out from cathode and deposit on the anode, electrolyte decomposes, and solid electrolyte interphase grows. The resulting phenomena show that the cathode deterioration is slight, and the anode degradation is the main factor of pouch battery degradation. After failure analysis, the concentrationgradient NCM cathode and nitrile-containing electrolyte additive are assembled into the pouch batteries, and the capacity retention increases from 75.24% (pristine batteries at 280 cycles) to 83.44% (improved batteries at 1500 cycles). Therefore, we suggest that power batteries operating at high temperature should be with minimized transition metal dissolution of cathode materials and stable solid electrolyte interphase.

Experimental study on the influence of locked-in stress on the uniaxial compressive strength and elastic modulus of rocks

The rock contains many inclusions which produce high locked-in stress under the ground stress. In order to study the influence of locked-in stress on the mechanical properties of rocks, the rock-like materials and nitrile rubber particles are used to make a test block of the rock-like model which contains inclusions. The rubber particles will expand as the test block is heated, which creates locked-in stress in the inclusions. Uniaxial compression tests of similar model blocks with different locked-in stresses and different inclusion contents were performed by using a water bath and MTS-5T uniaxial compression testing machine. The results show that the peak strength and elastic modulus decreased with the increasement of locked-in stress and inclusion content. In the meantime, the relationship among the peak strength, the elastic modulus of the test piece, the locked-in stress and the inclusion content were obtained with the help of a mathematical fitting analysis of the quantitative formula. Furthermore, the expression and value curve of the joint impact factor are calculated. This paper evaluates the importance of the locked-in stress in the mechanical properties of the rock-like material and provide a guide for other researchers to further investigate the locked-in stress in rocks.

The spin-labeling is accomplished during solid-phase synthesis of the oligonucleotides utilizing a palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction between 5-iodo-2′-deoxyuridine and the rigid spin-label 2,2,5,5-tetramethyl-pyrrolin-1-yloxyl-3-acetylene (TPA). 4-Pulse electron double resonance (PELDOR) was then used to measure the intramolecular spin-spin distances via the dipolar coupling, yielding spin-spin distances of 19.2, 23.3, 34.7, 44.8, and 52.5 Angstrom. Employing a full-atom force field with explicit water, molecular dynamic (MD) simulations on the same spin-labeled oligonucleotides in their duplex B-form gave spin-spin distances of 19.6, 21.4, 33.0, 43.3, and 52.5 Angstrom, respectively, in very good agreement with the measured distances. This shows that the oligonucleotides adopt a B-form duplex structure also in frozen aqueous buffer solution. It also demonstrates that the combined use of site-directed spin-labeling, PELDOR experiments, and MD simulations can yield a microscopic picture about the overall structure of oligonucleotides. The technique is also applicable to more complex systems, like ribozymes or DNA/RNA-protein complexes, which are difficult to access by NMR or X-ray crystallography.

Clarification of the USP compendial procedure for phenoxybenzamine hydrochloride via updating impurity profiles

PBA undergoes rapid degradation in neutral or basic aqueous solutions to generate the tertiary amine phenoxybenzamine as the predominant degradation product, which was confirmed as phenoxybenzamine hydroxide (PBA-OH). In addition, the unknown related substance was proposed as the phenoxybenzamine nitrile (PBA-CN) on the basis of LC-MS studies. The identity of PBA-CN was unambiguously verified via chemical synthesis, HPLC and NMR analyses. Self-assembling in nafion perfluorinated ionomers based on ESR spectra of novel fluorinated nitroxide spin probes

ESR spectra of three fluorinated nitroxide radicals with different lengths of the fluorinated side chain were measured in neat solvents and in aqueous Nafion solutions and membranes swollen by water. The probes were prepared by condensation of the 3-carboxy-2,2,5,5-tetramethyl-3-pyrrolin-1-yloxyl acid chloride (acid probe, AP) with 1H, 1H-perfluoroalkanols, CF3(CF2)(n)CH2OH, where n = 6, 10, and 16. The corresponding notation for the probes is FP8, FP12, and FP18. The N-14 hyperfine splittings (A(zz) and a(N)) are sensitive to the local site: A(zz) in the range 33.3-36.5 G and a(N) in the range 13.95-16.48 G were measured for solvents ranging from perfluorinated n-hexane to 10 M LiCl/water solution. The line shapes in the probe solutions at and near 300 K are sensitive to the presence of oxygen; exceptionally narrow signals (peak-to-peak width 0.1 G) were detected in carefully deaerated probe solutions, thus allowing the measurement of small hyperfine splittings (typically 0.24 G) from the methyl protons. ESR spectra of the fluorinated probes in Nafion solutions and membranes suggested the presence of multiple sites where the probes exhibited a range of dynamics. A possible reason for this effect is the location of probes in a range of amorphous phases where the dynamics is restricted by the proximity to crystalline polymer domains. The A(zz) values for the slow component of the probes in Nafion solutions and in membranes swollen by water indicated the location of the nitroxides in polar sites, where the local polarity is similar to that in the 10 M LiCl/water system. Probes with longer fluorinated segments penetrate deeper into the assembled polymer chains, farther away from the interface between the polymer aggregate and the solvent. Structural information that can be deduced from protiated and fluorinated probes intercalated in Nafion systems was compared, based on present results and previous studies.

Mechanistic Investigation of the Formation of Isoindole N-Oxides in the Electron Transfer-Mediated Oxidative Cyclization of 2 ‘-Alkynylacetophenone Oximes

This paper describes a joint experiment-theory investigation of the formation and cyclization of 2’-alkynylacetophenone oxime radical cations using photoinduced electron transfer (PET) with DCA as the photosensitizer. Using a combination of experimental H-1 and C-13 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra, high-resolution mass spectrometry, and calculated NMR chemical shifts, we identified the products to be isoindole N-oxides. The reaction was found to be stereoselective; only one of the two possible stereoisomers is formed under these conditions. A detailed computational investigation of the cyclization reaction mechanism suggests facile C-N bond formation in the radical cation leading to a 5-exo intermediate. Back-electron transfer from the DCA radical anion followed by barrierless intramolecular proton transfer leads to the final product. We argue that the final proton transfer step in the mechanism is responsible for the stereoselectivity observed in experiment. As a whole, this work provides new insights into the formation of complex heterocycles through oxime and oxime ether radical cation intermediates produced via PET. Moreover, it represents the first reported formation of isoindole N-oxides.

Polyacrylonitrile modified partially reduced graphene oxide composites for the extraction of Hg(II) ions from polluted water

Polyacrylonitrile nanoparticles grafted on ethylene diamine functionalized partially reduced graphene oxide (PAN-PRGO) was prepared via in situ emulsion polymerization and was further modified to contain amidoxime, amdinoethylene diamine, and carboxylic groups on the surface of the graphene nanosheets via partial hydrolysis of the nitrile groups on the polymer chains of the composite using (4% NaOH, 20 min) (HPAN-PRGO). The properties and morphologies of the prepared composites were compared through FTIR, UV-Vis, Raman spectra, XRD, SEM, TEM, and XPS analysis. The results revealed that polyacrylonitrile nanoparticles were grafted on the surface of the aminated graphene oxide nanosheets via the reaction between the free amino groups of the ethylene diamine modified graphene oxide nanosheets and nitrile groups of acylonitrile (AN). The obtained HPAN-PRGO composite was evaluated for its chelating property with Hg(II) ions. The effect of initial pH, initial concentration of the Hg(II), adsorbent dose, and contact time on the extraction of Hg(II) ions using HPAN-PRGO were investigated. The adsorption experiments indicated that HPAN-PRGO exhibits higher affinity toward Hg(II). The maximum uptake capacity for the extraction of Hg(II) ions on HPAN-PRGO was 324.0 mg/g at pH 5. The HPAN-PRGO shows a 100% removal of Hg(II) at concentrations up to 50 ppm, and the adsorption is exceptionally rapid showing more than 80.0% removal within 15 min and 100.0% of q(e) within 1.5 h at 800 ppm concentration. The Langmuir isotherm model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model have showed good fitness with the practical data. The XPS analysis of HPAN-PRGO before and after adsorption revealed the chelation adsorption mechanism between mercury and amine, amide, amidoxime, and carboxylic groups. After six adsorption-desorption cycles, the HPAN-PRGO could retain more than 90.0% of its original adsorption capacity. These results confirmed that HPAN-PRGO has exceptional performance for the removal of Hg(II) from wastewater. [GRAPHICS] .

Design and research of non-contact triboelectric nanogenerator based on changing electrostatic field

Triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) and its self-powered sensor based on the principles of contact electricity generation and electrostatic induction have important application prospects in the fields of new energy and internet of things (IoT). In the contact separation process of polymer materials with different electronegativity values, due to the transfer of electrons, a changing electrostatic field will be generated in the space around the polymer. In the existing TENG research, the field strength perpendicular to the plane of the friction layer and the electrode layer is mainly used to generate electrostatic induction, and the electric field effect around the polymer is ignored. According to the principle of electrostatic induction, the internal charge of the conductor in the electric field will be redistributed, which provides a way for the conductor to generate an induced electrical signal on the surface of the conductor without contacting the friction material. In this paper, we design a non-contact triboelectric nanogenerator (NC-TENG) based on changing electrostatic field. The influence of the distance between the conductor and the friction material, the induction area of the conductor and the position of the conductor relative to the friction material on the induced electrical output performance are studied when silicone rubber and nitrile rubber are used as a friction material. The results show that the NC-TENG can produce a stable electrical signal output when the conductor is completely separated from the friction material. The induced voltage of NC-TENG decreases with the increase of the distance between the conductor and the friction material, and gradually increases with the increase of the conductor’s induction area. For the friction material with a size of 30 mm x 30 mm, the electrical output of NC-TENG tends to be stable when its conductor area is 60 mm x 45 mm. In addition, the different orientation of the conductor relative to the friction material also has a significant effect on the induced electrical output. The NC-TENG designed in this paper provides a novel electrical output generation mode, which provides a higher possibility for the subsequent research on TENG and the application of self-powered sensors.
